A Sanctuary

Arbor camp is more than a camp, it is a little slice of paradise, a refuge in the woods of Maine. From the charming cabins, to the view of the meandering river, to the toasty fireplace, every detail adds to the magic of the place. We went there for New Years, and I know the first thought is who goes to Maine for winter vacation? But let me paint a little picture: you walk in and are greeted by blueberry wine, hot chocolate, and s'more fixings, and the kindling and wood ready to go next to the stove. The snow is falling gently across your view, which is almost all glass. There is a hot tub, ready to warm you while you enjoy the clear Maine winter sky. The bed is comfortable and the view from the second floor loft is medicine for the soul. My wife and I spent quality, quiet, refreshing time together, something that money can't buy in this world. I cannot recommend Arbor any higher! It is a sanctuary from the world and a haven of rest for a weary soul!

We were fortunate to be guests at the Willow cabin for a week.

We were fortunate to be guests at the Willow cabin for a week. It’s beautifully sited next to a meadow with a view of the Union River, which is perfectly framed by the large windows. The cabin had everything we needed for comfort and practicality, including a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, mini-splits for cooling and heating (though the cabin is so well-insulated that we barely needed the AC despite being there during a heat wave), and a large accessible bathroom. A hot tub and smokeless fire pit were great options for watching the sun set over the river in the evenings. It’s about a 40 minute drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia, and Ellsworth itself also has some great restaurants and a bike trail. Highly recommended!

Staying at Arbor Camp was simply magical!

Staying at Arbor Camp was simply magical! As a NYC native, I did not realize that an escape to nature could be so cozy, comfortable, and luxurious. I stayed in the Willow Cabin, and woke up each morning to a stunning view of the river rapids. Beyond being wonderfully nestled near water and trees, Arbor was the perfect location for me to explore Maine: hiking in Arcadia, checking out the shops in Ellsworth, eating awesome Jamaican food, enjoying delicious ice cream....I eat a lot haha. And after full days of exploring, I was so grateful to come back to a beautiful home underneath the starry sky. This was my first trip to Maine, but thanks to Arbor, it will not be my last!
